Known Issues – version 1.2

1.2 was released on 2nd August, mainly to workaround a bug in Microsoft’s SkyDrive service that prevented files from being downloaded properly.

A couple of people have left reviews saying you can’t edit transactions. You can, but this can only be done from the account screens, not the all transaction view or the budgets and reports.

A few of you have reported the app crashing from time to time. It seems this is related to editing a transaction, and then adding a new one from the account screen. As a workaround, use the add transaction buttons on the main panorama screen.

A few currency codes are not quite correct, specifically BGL (should be BGN), BYB (BYR), ROL (RON), RUR (RUB) and VEB (VEF). If you have accounts in these currencies, but your default currency is something else, the exchange rate used for the totals, budgets and reports will be 1 (clearly incorrect).

When setting a monthly recurring transaction, you can’t select the 29th, 30th or 31st of the month, only up to the 28th or the last day of the month.

Once entered, there is no way to delete a details field or category. You can edit them to call it something else (from the settings screen), but I should support deleting them if needed.

If you set an overall budget on the main panorama (either spending or income), you can’t change it (or delete it). Any new amount you enter is added to the amount already there, instead of replacing it.

In the cash flow report, transfers should not be counted against incomings and outgoings (currently they are for both).

If you enable two step verification on your SkyDrive account, this won’t work with Account Tracker or most other apps in fact! See the Two-step verification: FAQ for details of how to work around this.

    Hi, first of all: brilliant app. Thanks very much!
    My problem… I have had this app for 6 months now and meticulously entered every little expense on 8 different accounts, all subdivided into categories. Now, I thought it was time to get reports to see how I was doing, what expenses I have had in that time. But in the spending report, it shows hardly any of them. For example, my grocery expenses should be in the £1000s with over a hundred entries, but only shows 2, with a total expense of only £14 or so. I have checked that all my original entries are still there and they are. And I have made sure that I have put into the report to give me yearly expenses. I then asked for a monthly report, and that doesn’t work either. Am I doing something wrong or what might the problem be please?

      Hi Claudia, assuming you have checked the dates you are running the report over, it will either be the accounts or groups you have selected, or you have chosen to exclude certain accounts from the budgets and reports. The latter is done in the settings for each account.

    Hi Haley,
    I would like to report an issue with account tracker. Since 2 weeks ago the app has failed to update exchange rates and it resulted in a messy calculation between my accounts. I use SGD as my default currency and it seems that the rates is set to 1 SGD = 1 (other currency). I tried to update the rates manually through settings but it still not updating. Please help to resolve the issue. Thank you.

      Rates are updated automatically so there is no need for a manual way of doing this. Rates default to 1 though, so it sounds like you don’t have access to Yahoo (where I get the rates from), wherever you are. Not sure what I can do about that as it is working ok as far as I can tell.

          Sorry, I no longer support my Windows Phone app (see my website for details). Having said that, I haven’t changed anything and there is nothing in my app that would prevent this from working. It is clearly an issue with either Microsoft or Yahoo.

    Yikes – didn’t realise my comment was under windows phone as is not related to that. I am downloading all transactions from Apple iPad so txns download from all accounts. Is there any way to have a positive and negative line from iPad csv export? Thanks

      Hi Darryl, no, transfers are a single transaction in my app and that is the way they are exported. Otherwise you couldn’t distinguish them from spending and income.

    Hi, apologies if there is already a post that covers the issue but couldn’t locate it. I am exporting the data into csv format and then working the data in a spreadsheet. The only problem to my analysis is that transfers from one account to another just show as a single line item with a positive amount despite it being a reduction from the account given in the account column. Is there a way you can have transfers show as two lines – a positive and negative under respective account names when exporting? Thanks

      Hi Darryl, no you can’t. But on Windows Phone you can only export one account at a time anyway so I don’t really understand your question?

    I love this app.
    Is the best of this kind for Windows Phone. But really need an update:
    – Option for inactive accounts
    – Calculator in amount input fields
    – Option to upload images in transactions ( for sabe invoice for example)
    – Automatic backup function

      Hi Javier, unfortunately I am not in a position to add any features to my Windows Phone apps. The market just isn’t big enough to make it worthwhile. Sorry.

      Hi Alex, no, the backup file won’t help you. But you can export each account as a CSV file – tap the three dots at the bottom right. I can’t remember whether you can do the same from the all transactions screen – probably not.

    Hi ,I am switching from iPhone to a Windows phone,I need to restore a Account Tracker backup made on the iPhone app to the new windows phone app but it only mentions SkyDrive not OneDrive,can you help please?

      Hi Mike, SkyDrive and OneDrive are the same thing. But you can’t restore an iOS backup file onto Windows Phone. The two apps are not compatible.

      Hi Otto, correct, you can’t update them manually as it is not necessary. The app updates them automatically so they are always accurate.

        Hi, I’m using multiple accounts with different currencies but it’s been a while the update has not been working. I have been trying to tap on the update option in the currency menu but nothing happens. I have a Hungarian version, maybe the site is down?

          The app uses Yahoo to look up exchange rates, and it is working fine. No-one else has reported an issue, but it’s possible there is a bug there somewhere.

    The opening screen shows one item as not cleared in just one account, but in that account’s detail every entry is ticked up to and including today’s date.
    Any way of listing just the uncleared items?

          Hi, unless there is a counting bug in my app (which is possible), one of your transactions won’t have the tick symbol. If you have been reconciling regularly it should be pretty obvious, presumably a fairly recent one (otherwise your reconciled balance will have been incorrect for a long time).

    Hi Graham, Two questions:

    (1) Is there a way to delete a large group of backup files at once without clicking on each one individually to delete it? I have an overload of them!

    (2) After altering a budget category figure, the screen reverts to the top of the Budgets page. Helpfully, the screen image view stays put when when one just changes year, for example, when one is comparing spends or income for a particular category, or when one clicks on month, week, or custom view. Would it be possible for the screen to image to stay in place after modifying a budget category rather than always reverting to the top of Budgets?

      Hi Laurence, no, sorry (to both requests). You can bulk delete backup files from SkyDrive/OneDrive, but not from the app itself.

    I would like to report a bug in account tracker app for windows phone.
    I’m from indonesia and i’m using this app mainly for the multicurrency capabilities. And i found that i couldn’t add cents in indonesian rupiah currency, but it’s okay for other currencies.

    Please help to check and update the app if necessary.

      Hi William, this is not a bug. IDR doesn’t use sub units (Sen) as these are now obsolete.

      Hi, not if you have overwritten them. Your data is only ever stored on your device unless you copy a backup file off it.

      HI Luciano, I don’t support onedrive, but SkyDrive might work. Export a statement in CSV format from the account screen(s) by tapping the three dots, then go to the backups screen to copy to SkyDrive. See https://grahamhaley.co.uk/accounts-wp/backups/ for details.

      Hi, you can’t share data between the two platforms, i.e. import an iOS backup file. They use completely different database formats.

      Hi, you can use the account groups feature to group accounts of similar types. It’s up to you what these are called.

    I love the app, though one suggestion. When you click on categories the save button should appear because you are not certain what to do once you select a category.

      Hi Gustavo, adding a new category lets you select an existing one, or type in a new one and use that. I am not sure exactly what you mean.

    There is a problem with new account opening. When opening a new account with initial (opening) balance it is not indicated in “budgets” fields as income transaction. Please fix it.

      That’s correct, it’s because it isn’t income, i.e. its not a transaction. If you want to treat it like a transaction, use a 0 opening balance and add a separate transaction.

    Please fix the problem with “budgets” field. It shows non actual statistics when passing to a new month. For example:
    1. In November my balance was $ 2000 (positive).
    2. In December I had only spending transactions (no income) amounting to $1200. “budgets” field shows only spending transactions and statistics are negative “-1200”. While I still had $800 in December. This remaining money I want to be indicated (transferred) in a new month

      The same problem refers to “cash flow” – the statistics are incorrect. The same is applicable to negative balance. I mean:
      1. If in November one had negative balance amounting to “-1200 $” it should be transferred to a new month statistics and indicated in fields “budgets” , “cash flow” and “spending”.

        No, the app doesn’t work that way. Reports and budgets are for the period you want to look at, and this can be changed to whatever you want (days, weeks, years, months … etc). The app has no knowledge of how one period relates to another. These things are simply views on the transactions you have entered.

      I don’t see a problem with the budgets field. It shows the budget, what your transactions add up and the difference between the two – this is shown in the screenshots at https://grahamhaley.co.uk/accounts-wp/budgets/. Budgets are not carried forward from month to month, each period is completely separate.

    1. Spendings: 1000$
    2. Income: 2000$

    If you could introduce this, I’ll purchase and recommend to friends.

          So the app doesn’t do that as the periods can be anything you want. It wouldn’t know how the separate periods relate to each other, or how many periods you wanted to look at. Sorry.

    Today Account Tracker will not open on my Lumia 635; I tried restarting a couple of times but no luck. When I touch the icon the screen clears to black but then goes straight back to the home screen. Every so often I can see the Account Tracker start logo but then it’s straight back to the home screen again. As others have said it makes me realise how much I rely on this application.

      Hi Christos, yes, tap the three dots when you are on an account screen. The file is put onto SkyDrive.

    I’ve just started using the Windows Phone version and tried to add a shares account, using the share ID as the account name and in the notes the quantity STOCKS:1000. This used to work on the iOS version but not for Windows Phone.

      Hi Mark, there are no audio alerts in any of my apps. On iOS when you post a notification, you can control what that does in the system settings. Perhaps it’s the same on Windows Phone? Failing that you can disable alerts in my app settings.

    Just now I purchased the AT for my Windows Phone Nokia 1520. I downloaded the App too into my phone from Windows store. Now from my iPad Mini I exported my data to my MBAir. Well, everything went off well till I copied the relevant Backup file to my online OneDrive. In Windows Phone when I accessed the Data Backup, your app says there is no app to restore while my purchased app is very much there. How do I restore all my data in the WP app? Please help.

      Hi, you can’t restore an iOS backup file on WP (and vice versa) – they are completely different database formats. All you can do is export your data as a CSV file, reformat this into the import format and use that. But it won’t import recurring transactions.

          Hi, you export transactions as a CSV file wherever you see the CSV button at the top right of the screen. For import format, please see https://grahamhaley.co.uk/accounts-wp/, specifically the backups section. It would be painful doing this regularly, it is just not designed to share between the two separate platforms.

              Hi Chris, this is highly unlikely. The number of people who would make use of this would be tiny (probably in single figures), which means it would have to be a very expensive in-app purchase. 😦

      Hi Craig, I don’t know what you mean by Windows mobile – AFAIK this was replaced by Windows Phone in 2010. Account Tracker for WP has supported live tiles since it was launched.

    There is no way of purging reconciled transactions so I deleted them only to see the account balance change. Tapping to the left of the account balance to change it has no effect!!
    If I hadn’t deleted the reconciled transactions when would they automatically disappear from the account?

      Hi Mike, they don’t disappear ever. If they did the reports would be useless. Don’t know why you think tapping to the left of the balance lets you change it – it doesn’t work like that.

    When I edit a recurring item in the current month I am not given the “this only” option and all subsequent amounts are changed automatically. So I have to go to the next month to restore the “normal” amount for all subsequent months.
    Could “this only” be available for the current month, please?

      Hi Malcolm, that option is only available for the 2nd and subsequent occurrences. The app assumes (rightly or wrongly) that editing the 1st occurrence means you want to change the whole series.

    Dear Sir, Please add the mobile purchase option so that everyone can purchase the app. Microsoft doesn’t allow all the credit and debit cards so lots of consumers are not able to purchase the app and I am one of them. I have two debit cards from different banks but Microsoft doesn’t allow anyone of those. Please sir its my request to you to add the mobile purchase option.

      Hi Pritam, billing and payment is a Microsoft issue and is nothing to do with the apps themselves. You need to raise this as an issue with them.

      Hi John, I don’t know what you mean by journal. Transfers are transactions that move money between two existing accounts.

    Hi,

    I’ve imported my data from an Android app, did the export there, converted into the format the app is requesting and I have a problem with transfer transactions. When I have transfers from account A in currency X to account B in currency Y – it simply makes a mess with the end result – my accounts end up with nebulous figures. Can you advise me of a proper way to do import with regard to transfer transactions between accounts that are set in different currencies? Thank you.

      Hi, the app probably doesn’t cope with that too well. You might have to fix up these (presumably) few transactions.

        Hi Graham, I am having a problem editing those transactions – I cannot edit a transaction, cannot delete it – nothing. I could not imagine what would happen if I made a few mistakes entering transactions… Not to mention I have to scroll through 6 months of transactions to even view the last few.

          Hi, you edit transactions from the account screens, as mentioned on my support page. You can also scroll easily using the Today and look ahead buttons.

    Hi Graham. I had account tracker in my Nokia 920 with Windows phone 8, and i have a backup with the extension sdf. However, i was assaulted and lost my phone. Now i bought an iPhone 5S and i installed the account tracker, but i dont know how import my backup, because the backups files for the iPhone have extension atb. How i can solve this problem?? Thank for your answers.

      Hi Humberto, the two database formats are different so you can’t do what you are trying. Your best bet is to export transactions as a CSV file, reformat this to the format documented at https://grahamhaley.co.uk/accounts/backups/ then import it.

      Hi Filipe, no, that would only work if the data was stored on a server. It isn’t. No-one would put their personal data on a 3rd party server, especially not financial data.

    I am trying to export an account.
    I click on the account and select/click “export to CSV”. So far, so good!
    But when I go to “settings/backups” and click “statement.csv” I am asked if I want to “import” it. Now I’m worried because I want to EXPORT it to SkyDrive, not import it. I am worried that the csv file will double up all the account’s data. Can I be sure it will be exported and not imported?

      Hi Malcolm, the initial export creates a file in the app, and you need to copy this yourself to SkyDrive (a Microsoft restriction). When you go to the backups screen from the settings, select the file and choose Copy to SkyDrive. The file will then be available or visible on your computer, via SkyDrive of course. You don’t want to import the same file – in act that would fail as it’s in the wrong format.

    When I add the Add Transaction Spending to my home screen, if I click on it but don’t add a transaction, instead just back out, it vibrates my phone for quite a few seconds. I think it might be a bug.

    Shame you are not entertaining windows 8, I have just brought a new laptop and was hoping to sync phone with laptop but wont be able to do that now, will admit that I have started using another finance app that’s supports both iPhone and win 8.

    yours is by far the better one, but now cant offer what I require.

      Hi Paul, not sure what you mean exactly, but Windows Phone OS itself is quite slow, especially if you have an older smartphone. There is nothing much I can do about that in my app.

    Hi. I just downloaded the trial of Account Tracker on my Lumia 520. I have added a couple of accounts and entered some transactions and pinned the icon to the start screen, but the live tile does not seem to be working (it just stays on the icon, I thought it might flip over and I have made it the big tile). Am I doing something wrong, or how does the live tile work?

      Hi Jane, the main app icon is not a live tile – I wouldn’t know what to show! But you can pin account tiles that show the current balance.

    I have set up a sub category “Daily Spending: Shopping” and another sub category “Daily Spending: Restaurant meals” both under top category of Daily spending. If I have overspent on say restaurant meals and underspent on shopping I would like to “use” some of the budget money from “shopping” to “restaurant meals”, I can’t think how to do it, any ideas.

      Hi, that’s the way the app works. If you set a budget for Daily Spending, or look at the reports, you will see the combined amounts. This is presumably what you want. Having said that, I don’t support subcategories on Windows Phone which is where you posted your question.

    Hello, I just downloaded your app, and I have to say I really like it. I’ considering buying it, I just wanted to ask:
    1) Will you add support for high resolution screens? I’ve got a Lumia 920 (1280*768) and I noticed that both the app tile, the text on the tiles inside the app and the background look a bit blurred out and pixelated.
    2) Will you add a double-wide live tile? I mean, with the app logo on the front, and some info on the back of the tile.
    That would really be useful 🙂

    Brilliant app. I have contacted you before. I am going on a break soon, the lady I go with has given me her half of cost and I have paid the full cost to the Holiday people, however the cost shows the full amount (spending in reports) whereas actually I have only “spent” half this amount is there any way to show only what I have paid ? ie full amount £500 I paid £250 lady paid £250 so I want it to show that the break has cost ME £250 not £500.

    Love your app; it’s amazing to pack such flexibility into a WP app when there are so few on PCs!
    I’d like to add another vote to the deleting categories count, please.

    But also, I’m having problems with reconciling. I obviously reconcile a number of transactions at a time. But not all are saved at the end of the operation. They seem to be very reluctant to be saved at all.

      Hi David, I am not aware of any issues with saving changes while reconciling. All this does is add a small tick symbol that is displayed beneath the amount and running balance.

      Hi Uzodinma, you just need to enter your category in the box and then tap the + button. It is only greyed out when the box is empty.

    Hi there, quick question (it may be there but I could be missing it) is there a way to create a recurring transaction on every nth day of the month rather than a weekly/monthly cycle? Ie. rent payment due on the 13th of every month or something

    PS. Great app otherwise with beautiful interface. Well worth the purchase.

      Hi Simon, yes, set the start date to the Nth of the first month then set the repeat interval to every month. This is the default way it works so not sure why you think it’s not possible?

    Hi Graham – I’m a happy user of Account Tracker, for quite a while now using your fantastic app.
    Because you mentioned it by yourself, regarding the category fields (“You can edit them to call it something else (from the settings screen), but I should support deleting them if needed.”) – I think it would indeed be useful to be able to delete categories. Over the time, there are several categories which I found a good idea to create in the beginning, but now some of them are just extending my scrolling list since I don’t use them anymore. Also I don’t need to add other category names. Once I cleared the amounts from that category that I don’t want to use anymore and moved it over to the one that fits better, this category, renamed to an ‘x’ or just as an empty space, stays in the category list. Would be nice if you could built in a delete-option in future updates. I think it’s useful.Just my 2 cents. Best regards & thanks again for your good work!

      Hi Jorgen, both have been supported for a while. To export tap the … on the account screen. To import read the documentation about backups.

    I do like ur apps, but i think will be better if:
    1. Separate categories between expense and income
    2. Budget by Item Category
    3. Detil each category budget devided by expenses, will be ok if chart and number

    Is it possible to add those feature..? And When..?

      Hi Sofyan, 2 and 3 are already supported. From the budgets page select more budgets. I agree with 1 but it’s not likely to change as there were some technical reasons why it wasn’t done.

    I bought your Account Tracker app for my Lumia 820.
    I have changed the phone for a Lumia 925. All the rest of my paid apps have been downloaded free to my new phone, but yours only offers me trial or purchase.
    Have tried downloading by PC but although purchase shown, I cannot download from there.
    Am I missing a trick?

      Hi Andrew, I have no idea why that would be, but it sounds more like an account issue rather than anything to do with the app. You might want to contact Microsoft to see if they have an explanation.

    Love the app – had it on my old iPhone and now bought again on WP8. For me, the only gripe I’ve found is the difficulty in stopping recurring transactions.

    I have monthly direct debits which eventually I may choose to cancel. But cancelling them in the app seems to involve finding the original transaction and editing the recurrence to stop – perhaps it would be possible to edit it from this months recurrence? Hope that makes sense – or maybe there’s an easier way I haven’t found.

      Hi Ben, you can easily end a series by deleting the last occurrence. The app will ask you if you want to delete just that one, or from that one onwards.

    Hi, I recently brought your app because it works great (had the trial version on wp7) however I have one little concern and it’s about the live tiles. I have 2 on my start page one that shows an account and the other to add expenses. My “problem” is that the live tile that show one of my account won’t update unless I get into the app by pressing it and then getting back to the start screen. Why won’t they update automatically after I added the new transaction.

      Hi japert, they should update, but this doesn’t happen instantly. It only happens periodically as the OS calls in to the app. How long are you waiting?

      Hi Aha, backing up images is a bit of an issue, which is why it is not implemented. For cheque numbers, what I do in iOS is to auto-populate with the next number in the series. The WP version could do something similar.

        I’ve seen about backup & restore functionality, but I mean something else …
        I talking about a new funcion allowing to upload transaction (expences, incomes) direcly from a properly formatted csv file. In this way I could automatically upload transaction from my bank or credit card statement. It coud be very useful to analize spending from an account (tipically credit card account) someone use frequently with no time to manually track expences day by day. Rregards.

    about the reconciliations … it’s not so clear (for me) how does it works. It should be more effective if it could use starting and ending balance from the banck account statemens (i.e), and then allow the user to reconcile the single statement with a check (modifiin/adding newone if necessary) until the balance is reached.
    Is it possible to plan a development in that direction?

      Hi Andrea, reconciling is ticking off transactions in the app that you see on your bank statement, and you don’t need to know anything about balances for that. I know other software does use an ending balance, but to me that is a weird way of doing things. What are you meant to do if you don’t get to the balance?

        Hi Graham, thanks for your recent reply to my email … I have migrated to WP for development reasons, having previously used your app on iOS. One thing that I can’t work out in the WP is when reconciled transactions will disappear from an account screen ? I’ve set mine to manual ‘tick’ reconciliation as I have many manual transactions that I sometimes put off until the next day. At the moment transactions reconciled from yesterday are showing if I scroll up in the account screen, do they not disappear when ticked as they do on iOS ? just worried in 6 months I’d have to do a lot of scrolling to get to today ! (unless of course the WP app jumps to today and it’s meant to be the case you can look back if required) From a migration point of view I was pleasantly surprised to find familiar transactions & features.           Hi Simon, I don’t support hiding reconciled transactions on WP. Both versions automatically scroll to the most recent transaction when you select the account, and you can also tap on the balance at the top or the word today to scroll.

    On the Edit Account Settings setting Exclude to Yes is useful but it would still be handy to subtotal if it was in a group.

      Hi Leigh, not sure I follow. The Exclude option is specifically to exclude these accounts from your totals, group/all budgets and group/all reports.Its intended use is if you are tracking accounts for someone else, like a club or a family member.

        Ok, I understand that. What I am asking for is that the subtotal still be displayed but remain Excluded if marked up as so. For example I have a two groups PersonalGroup and BusinessGroup . I Account for PersonalGroup everything included from my BusinessGroup I don’t, but to have a running subtotal for BusinessGroup would be handy for me and I am sure others. If this is not a valid use case I am still very happy with the product 😉

      Hi Michael, I assume you mean the reminders feature. This is shown with a small clock symbol when display transactions.

      Hi Andrea, I assume you can just re-download the app free of charge, as your purchase is registered against your account not your phone. Assuming you have a backup on SkyDrive, you should be then able to restore that into the app on your new phone.

    My other half is contemplating moving to a windows phone. We have been using account tracker successfully on our ios devices but will it be possible to share the same data file between ios and windows? We are currently using dropbox backup to do so.

      Hi Maryanne, this is not supported as the database formats are completely different. It’s not something I would expect many people to want or need so it would be a huge investment for a tiny number of users.

    I need to delete and edit my transactions. Where i can do that?
    I need to schedule backup to skydrive, at least once per day. It is already possible? Where?
    Is possible to define a budget with limit and become reported when this limit are exceeded?

      Hi again, backups are a manual process because they take time (many seconds). Also you have to manually copy to SkyDrive because Microsoft don’t let you do this automatically. Sadly.

      You can certainly define budgets, but there is no reporting. It’s up to you to watch what you are spending vs your budgets.
