iPad support

May 29, 2010

At long last, the iPad has been released in the UK! I managed to pick one up yesterday and have started playing around with what it can do. While it can support each of my apps already at their iPhone/iPod Touch resolution, they do look small in the middle of the screen. Running these at 2x resolution looks pretty poor since the fonts aren’t properly scaled. Over the next month or two, I will be planning some updates to take advantage of those extra pixels!

Have just got the iPad myself Graham and think it’s pretty neat. Look forward to the iPad versions of all your apps (i use all 3). They’ll all benefit from the extra space!

When the Meters and Accounts packages are released, can you make sure i can transfer the data from the iPhone? Thanks.

    Keep up the good work.

Hi Dave, Just playing with this now, and really all apps probably need a complete redesign for the iPad (not just mine, but *all* apps!). However what I think I will do is get a universal version of each app up and running fairly quickly (these will be 0 cost upgrades), then perhaps consider whether to create much more sophisticated versions tuned to the iPad. I did think about separate iPad versions for each app, but I think universal is the way to go.

Regarding transferring your data, you will certainly be able to do this with my backup and restore feature in each app (I’ve just done this myself with Hill Lists and Meter Readings), however regularly syncing content from one device to another will need quite a bit of thought. It would be nice if Apple provided support for this, perhaps via iTunes syncing.
