iOS 7 – initial impressions

June 15, 2013

I have just re-built my apps against the iOS 7 SDK and tried them on the simulator. WOW! Apple have COMPLETELY changed the default look of the navigation bars, tables, section headers, popups … etc, pretty much everything!

For the most part my apps work, however to support iOS 7 natively there are a bunch of things that will definitely need fixing. For example table heights, the blue buttons, text alignment, colours … etc.

I haven’t tried running my existing (published) apps on iOS 7, so it will be interesting to see how they look and behave. More on that later no doubt(*) …

    Hi Graham,
Just to let you know I’m running the beta and from use so far, your app works fine!

I was interesting to see your thoughts, especially with the radical change in design (lack of aqua blue, toggle switch design) but some parts of the app have changed design automatically already!!

I’ve started with a blank account, so as I add more transactions in Accounts, I’ll feedback what I can 🙂

Hi Rob, that is good news. The issues I have seen are almost certainly caused by me building my app against the iOS7 SDK, which existing users won’t see until I do an update.

How are you finding other apps on iOS 7? Perhaps I will update my own iPhone 5 later … 🙂

Surprisingly a lot of other apps work ‘right out of the box’ too!
I’m surprised ‘Clear’ doesn’t work well, and a couple of others using videos cause some major bugs (sound continues once video is stopped)

First beta being this stable always worries me though haha! 🙂
