Added iPad support as a Universal update, i.e. free to existing users. Sorry it took me so long!

Added support for iTunes file sharing – this means that you can now export and import backup and CSV files using iTunes itself, rather than having to use the WiFi functionality built into the app. You can however still use WiFi if you prefer.

Fixed two bugs to do with calculating the balances of reconciled transactions.

Minor improvements to the user interface.

Updated the UK database to version 11.5 (very minor changes that remove two Deweys and one Marilyn).

Fixed two minor display issues on the iPad version as a result of the iOS 4.2.1 update.

For those of you with an iPhone 4, I have added a setting to turn on the rear-facing torch when entering readings. This should be very useful if your meters are in a dark cupboard! Also if you were thinking of buying one of the many Torch applications, you can now save your money instead!! 🙂

Improved the way you set up your meter type. It now includes the number of readings you submit to your supplier and the labels to use for each one (e.g. Day and Night). Simply select the meter type in the settings.

Fixed a bug where dual fuel price comparisons weren’t working properly when accessed from your gas meter.

Other minor tweaks and bug fixes.

Added support for “bill reminders”. Basically each transaction now has a reminder switch, and if this is turned on, the Accounts screen will report the number of days until the next such transaction (1-28 days warning). This also ties in with the way I alert users if any of their accounts are going to hit their alert limits, i.e. you can configure the app to send you an alert a few days in advance. The latter is done in the background for supported devices, otherwise it happens when you launch the app.

For those of you with devices that can run apps in the background (e.g. the iPhone 4), added the ability to make automatic backups. These are made in the background after you close the application if the latest backup is older than the configured number of days (1-7). Note that backups will only protect you if you export them off your device, so please don’t forget to do this from time to time. You have been warned!!

Fixed a bug where the starting balance in the reports was incorrectly calculated when you have accounts in other currencies (thanks to Bob Hooper for reporting this – I am surprised I didn’t notice it myself!!).

Corrected a few minor issues caused by the introduction of spending refunds.

Added support for a number of hill lists in Ireland totalling 1055 hills. Many thanks to Simon Stewart for permission to use this data from http://mountainviews.ie.

Added a help page, with a brief description of how to use the application, as well as descriptions for each of the lists. Just tap on the i button at the top right of the main screen.

Minor UI changes.

If you have my backup feature, I would recommend taking a backup and exporting this off your device before updating.

NOTE – iOS 4.2.1 is now out and this has introduced a couple of minor display issues on the iPad version only (see my support page for details). I will fix these in my next update.

By popular request, I have put back the ability to view readings by their daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly equivalents. Sorry for removing this in version 2.5.

While doing the above, I have moved the way you select your “bill” readings – this is now on the add/edit reading screen as a switch (ON/OFF). To view usage and costs between bills, you now access this from the same place as your last and next bill (icon at the bottom left of the readings screen).

Also moved the meter editing functionality (add, remove, rename, reorder) to the settings screen – just select the Edit button. The old Meters screen is now just a quick way to jump to a specific meter, rather than scrolling/swiping left and right.

Fixed a couple of bugs in passing.

Mainly performance and useability improvements and a few small bugs fixes. But also …

Added support for refunds (check out the left facing arrow on the transaction screen). These are essentially income transactions but they are treated as negative spending in the budgets and reports.

Added settings for choosing the pair of weeks (for biweekly/fortnightly budgets and reports) and for how to handle reconciling transfers.

As with all updates, I would recommend taking a backup and exporting it off your device before updating.

Re-organised the user interface to put all the main functionality of the app onto the “usage and costs” screen. From there you can now add readings, go to your settings, view the help file, make backups and (if you are in the UK) do price comparisons. You should only need to go back to the Meters screen to add, rename or remove meters, or to manually select a meter. And you really only need to select a meter if you have lots of them, since you can easily swipe left/right to switch between your meters.

Simplified the Readings screen to make it more readable.

Added the ability to enter your own billed units, for those of you tracking things like weight, mileage, … etc.

Added a few more currencies.

Added the ability to import your own list of hills ticked as a CSV file. To get the file onto your device you will need my backup and restore feature (for which there is a very small one-off charge). You will also need to use the hill numbers as defined by the Database of British Hills as this is really the only way to uniquely identify them. For file formats … etc, please see my support pages (specifically here).

Added the New Donalds list, which is not specifically called out in the Database of British Hills. The New Donalds are a subset of the Donalds and Donald Tops.

Added a map link to the list view (and moved the Quick Edit button to the lower right of the screen).

Added “section” counts to the list view (enclosed in square brackets). I personally find this really useful.

The app now remembers how you last sorted and filtered your lists (e.g. climbed or unclimbed), and what your map preference is (classic, satellite or hybrid).

In the hill view, it now shows which lists the hill is in.

Moved setting your default location to the Location screen itself.

Added a default email address to the settings, to make exporting quicker.

Other minor UI improvements and the odd bug fix.

Finally I have managed to get approval to use the Irish hill list data from http://mountainviews.ie so watch out for this in my next update!

Added support for both weekly and biweekly/fortnightly budgets and reports. Set the week start day on the settings screen (defaults to Monday), then to set the period you are interested in, select the date shown at the bottom of the budgets or reports screen. Note there are two biweekly/fortnightly views, since a given date can be in two separate periods.

Added support for importing transaction data from a CSV file. See the help screen or my web site for details on file formats … etc. To get a CSV file onto your device, you will need to use the Import by WiFi option on the backup screen. The file can then be selected and imported as a CSV file (rather than restored as a backup).

Extended the options available for the default look ahead period. You can now choose to go right out to +13 months (previously it was +2 months).

Added a quick “getting started” tour that takes you through the main features and screens of the application.

Added a few more currencies (e.g. XCD was requested).

Other minor changes and improvements to the user interface.
