Account Tracker 3.4 now available

This update is mainly a user interface change, with a few bug fixes in passing. Also note that the minimum iOS version supported is now 3.1.3, due to the difficulty in testing older versions.

Moved the add transaction button to the bottom tab bar. This is now accessible no matter where you are in the app.

On the individual account screen, the current balance and all available options are shown on two toolbars (top and bottom). These can be hidden to show only the transactions by tapping on the up arrow button. Once hidden, tap on the down arrow to show them again.

The backups screen is now accessed via the Backups button on the Settings screen. Your Dropbox backups are now only shown once you tap the refresh button. iCloud support for backups will be coming in a future update.

Moved the various Help options behind a Help button on the Settings screen. Also added a quick link to leave a review on iTunes.

Fixed bugs to do with the Account screen on iOS 4.2.1, also an issue with the minimum balance looking further out than planned.

iOS 5 and notifications

For those of you running iOS 5, the new Notification Center (US spelling) is a convenient place to access all of your notifications. However for me, my own apps were DISABLED by default. You will still get a small banner-style notification at the top of the screen, but this is only displayed for a few seconds so is likely to be missed. To fix this, go to the main Settings app, and select Notifications. Find my apps (Account Tracker and/or Meter Readings) and turn “Notification Center” to ON. You can also choose how you want these displayed (banner or alert) as well as other options like sounds or lock screen … etc.

Account Tracker 3.3.2 now available

This is a quick bug fix update to correct a few minor issues introduced in recent releases. In passing I have added the following three minor features …

Support for transaction editing while reconciling. Just tap on the blue buttons.

Extended the look ahead period to 24 months (up from 13) in the settings. Note that this only really applies to the account screen – budgets and reports can be done as far out (or back) as you want.

Support for importing transfer transactions via a CSV file. Please read the user guide for how to do this.

Meter Readings 2.9.2 now available

Improved the way you add new readings, especially for meters with multiple sets of readings (e.g. day and night). You can now (and in fact have to) enter all the readings for your meter before saving.

For users in the UK, the price comparison feature is now accessible via a single tap, and the help links have been moved to the Settings screen. I encourage people to use this feature from time to time to make sure they are not paying over the odds. If you do switch suppliers, please use the links provided as it helps me to keep updating the app – thank you!

Changed the reminders feature not to remind you if you use the app on the day of the reminder (e.g. if you set the reminder for midday and you use it at 9am).

Minor fixes for iOS 5, and other UI improvements.

Account Tracker 3.3 now available

This update contains a number of UI improvements …

– Better use of screen space on the Accounts screen, particularly on the iPhone and iPod devices. The top toolbar is now hidden by default, and it can be shown using the down arrow button. Note that to add accounts, you need to select Edit first.

– Showing hidden accounts. This is now more obvious, as it is an option on the toolbar. The same is true for the various balance options (e.g. today, available, minimum or reconciled).

– More intuitive use of the top toolbar on the Account screen. On the iPhone and iPod Touch, this now contains all the more common options, and tapping on the right arrow button lets you filter the visible transactions. No change on the iPad as there is enough space to show all options.

– If there are no account reminders to display, I now show the account notes. I have found this to be very useful to record interest rates and maturity dates, to help me visualise all of my accounts together.

– Delete button for transactions has been moved to the bottom of the screen. Having this at the top right made it too easy to tap by mistake.

– When viewing the pie charts, made it more obvious what the top right button does (i.e. switch between List view and Charts view).

– Exporting by CSV. Instead of using the email icon, or Export buttons, I now specifically use a CSV button whenever exporting is an option.

– Minor fixes to cope with iOS 5.

In addition the following features have been added …

– Budget change. Following my last update, I realise that a few people rely on the sum of the budgeted items (sorry Tony). This is now possible again by leaving the overall budgets at 0, i.e. by setting the overall spending budget to 0, and setting a few per-category budgets, the “All Spending” budget row will show all budgeted spending against the sum of the budgeted categories.

– Ability to edit notes for each occurrence of a recurring transaction. You can still have default notes for the whole series, but this can be overridden for each occurrence.

– Calendar view for transaction dates is now optional. While I prefer the calendar view, it is not ideal for entering very old transactions, or as I found out recently, blind people who rely on the accessibility features built into iOS. If disabled in the settings, the more standard scroll wheels are used instead.

– When entering foreign amounts, you can now set the bottom amount and have the top amount calculated from the exchange rates. This is actually a complex input screen. If you set both amounts, the exchange rate will be calculated for you, and f you only set one amount, and enter or look up the exchange rate, the other amount will be calculated for you.

Man 3 version 1.1 now available

Making the app free to let people try it before purchasing. The app is fully functional, but you can only save readings for one month either side of the installation date.

Added an in-app purchase (Save Readings) to remove this restriction.

Minor UI changes.

Account Tracker 3.2 now available

Improvements to the budgets screen, in particular I have made it a bit more intuitive when adding and removing budgets. Note that more changes will be coming in this area.

By popular request, added support for re-ordering groups in the settings.

Performance improvements, especially when dealing with large numbers of transactions.

Shortened the getting started tour, as it was a bit too long.

Minor bug fixes and UI changes.
