Meter Readings and supplier switching

For users in the UK, version 2.4.1 makes it very easy to compare what you are currently spending against energy supplier prices in your area. Once you have configured your postcode per meter, all it takes is a single tap to see how much you could save, something you could easily do once a month or so. And if you decide to switch suppliers, I have tried to make this as simple as possible by pre-populating most of the data you need.

Give this feature a try and let me know how much you can save!

Average saving per customer so far is £366.44!

Account Tracker 2.5 now available

Added support for both weekly and biweekly/fortnightly budgets and reports. Set the week start day on the settings screen (defaults to Monday), then to set the period you are interested in, select the date shown at the bottom of the budgets or reports screen. Note there are two biweekly/fortnightly views, since a given date can be in two separate periods.

Added support for importing transaction data from a CSV file. See the help screen or my web site for details on file formats … etc. To get a CSV file onto your device, you will need to use the Import by WiFi option on the backup screen. The file can then be selected and imported as a CSV file (rather than restored as a backup).

Extended the options available for the default look ahead period. You can now choose to go right out to +13 months (previously it was +2 months).

Added a quick “getting started” tour that takes you through the main features and screens of the application.

Added a few more currencies (e.g. XCD was requested).

Other minor changes and improvements to the user interface.

Meter Readings 2.4.1 now available

For users in the UK only, added a feature that lets you compare your own usage and costs against energy supplier prices in your area. Once you have configured your meter type and postcode per meter, you can quickly find out the cheapest deal, either for electricity, gas or dual fuel. The app can then take you to website to give you a specific quote based on your current supplier and tariff, from where you can actually switch online, either right from your device, or by emailing a link to yourself to do this on a computer. All very simple and a very useful addition to help you save even more money!

Fixed the labels on the graphs to better support readings going back multiple years. This has been tested with readings going back to 1989!

Minor bug fixing and UI changes.

Account Tracker 2.4 now available

Added multi-currency support. Each account can now have its own currency, and for transfers between currencies, you can set the sending and receiving amounts separately, or enter/lookup the exchange rate to calculate the receiving amount. For non-transfers, you can set the currency of the transaction (e.g. if you are spending abroad). You can then set the foreign and account amounts separately, or enter/lookup the exchange rate to calculate the account amount.

NOTE: if you change an existing account’s currency and you find that all of its transaction values are out by a factor of 10 or 100, please get in touch via my contact page. I have a quick (hidden) fix to help you.

When selecting the current balance on the main Accounts screen, you are now presented with various options (today’s total, above alert limit, minimum and reconciled only) rather than it taking you through them one at a time.

Added a quick “Move to today” to the account screen.

Changed the cash flow report to exclude transfers if these are between accounts included in the same report (e.g. the all accounts report).

Fixed a bug where the quick restart option was not working on older devices.

Other bug fixes and UI improvements.

Account Tracker multi-currency support

Its been on my todo list for a while, and its now almost finished!

Each account will have a currency setting, and the account group and overall totals will be calculated using up-to-date exchange rates.

For transfers between accounts in different currencies, you will be able to set the sending and receiving amounts separately, or you can set the exchange rate and the receiving amount will be calculated automatically. You will also be able to lookup and use the current exchange rate.

When spending abroad, you will be able to enter transactions in a different currency to your account, and in a similar way to transfers above, set the two amounts separately, or set and lookup the exchange rate.

Budgets and reports will be presented in your default currency, since these are typically run across multiple accounts.

All of this will be in version 2.4 coming soon!

Account Tracker 2.3.1 now available

Added a help button (and help page) to the main Accounts screen.

Made the most recent transaction more obvious on the individual account screens (highlighted in blue).

Improved the handling of the unlock screen when returning from background mode. Previously you might have seen the last screen you were viewing briefly before the unlock screen appears.

When entering the details and category fields, made the search an exact match, i.e. the character positions are important too. This makes it a bit quicker to home in on the one you want. In addition I have (hopefully) improved the way existing categories can be picked when setting the details field.

Relaxed the restriction about editing the pattern and start date of a recurring transaction. Instead, if you try to edit such a transaction that started in the past, you will simply get a warning message but can continue at your own risk!

Fixed a couple of bugs to do with exporting settings from the free to the full version on iOS 4 devices that support background tasks.

Added a default email address to the settings. This is only ever used to pre-populate the emails used to export backups or account statements, however it does speed things up.

Other minor UI improvements and bug fixes.

Meter Readings 2.4 now available

Added the ability to import readings from a CSV file. To get these file onto your device though, you will need the additional Backup and Restore feature (a one-off purchase).

Added a default email address to the settings. This is only ever used to pre-populate the send email screen when exporting backups or readings, making it very quick to do.

Added an option to force line graphs to have a minimum value of 0 (rather than the actual minimum which could be higher). While this shows more whitespace on the graphs, it gives a more realistic view of changes in usage and costs.

Added a help screen (select the i button on the Meters screen), as well as a number of popup windows that should help new users get started.

Fixed a bug that prevented entering numbers with a leading decimal point (previously you needed to enter these as 0 point X …).

UI improvements and minor bug fixes.

Account Tracker 2.3 now available

Added multi-tasking support for devices where this is supported (3GS and iPhone 4 only).

On devices running iOS 4, the app will now alert you about accounts getting close to their alert limits even if the app is not running. Note that this only works if you run it at least once every 28 days.

Extended budgets support to allow you to set and view budgets per account, per account group or across all accounts.

On the main Accounts screen, tapping the total at the bottom will switch the display between today’s totals, reconciled totals only, minimum balance in the next 1-2 months, and available balance (current balance minus the alert limit, e.g. for credit card limits).

When adding a transaction and setting the details field, you can now quickly set the category too. Simply select the pair you want, or choose (other) if you are wanting to add a new category.

By popular request I have added the ability to set your month start date for reports and budgets (from the 1st through the 28th). Yearly reports and budgets will continue to run from 1st January through 31st December.

Added a switch to the monthly cash flow report to view either 6 or 12 months ahead.

Improved the help text for new users.

In the free version, increased the transaction limit to 25.

Other UI improvements.

Meter Readings 2.3 now available

Added support for the iPad. Note that to do this as a universal/free upgrade, the app only supports devices running iPhone OS 3.0 or above.

Fixed a problem that prevented restoring older backups on iOS 4.

Added high resolution images for use on the iPhone 4.

Cleaned up the graphs screen in landscape mode making it easier to select the period you are interested in seeing.

Other minor UI improvements.

Hill Lists 2.0.1 now available

Fixed a crash exposed by the iOS 4 OS upgrade when setting the date climbed or default location.

Fixed a problem that prevented restoring older backups on iOS 4.

Added support for showing surrounding hills (within 25 miles) when mapping your current location.

Added high resolution images for use on the iPhone 4.

Minor UI improvements.
