Minor fixes as a result of the iOS 9 update.
Note that you now require iOS 7.0 or above. Older versions (of iOS and my app) will continue to work, but you will no longer get updates. Full details are on my website.
If you are in the UK and like my app (and this update), please consider donating to the BBC’s annual Children In Need appeal (on TV tonight, 13th November). It’s a very good cause. Many thanks!
Added a fix/workaround for the HUF currency issue introduced by iOS 9.
Fixed a couple of layout issues on the iPad when running iOS 8 or above.
Fixed a crash when setting up or syncing via iCloud (iOS 7 only).
Fixed an issue when launching 1Password for PIN code entry (thanks to Rad from AgileBits for his help!).

As Apple continues to release a new version of iOS every year, it is becoming harder and harder to keep up support for older versions. Especially when I need to use the latest development tools to support the latest features.
I am currently in the process of updating all my apps, and as such will be making iOS 7.0 the minimum version supported. Hill Lists has already been updated, and Account Tracker (Free) is in the review queue. Meter Readings will be updated this weekend.
A helpful reference for devices vs minimum iOS versions can be found here. To continue getting updates(*), you will need to be running at least iOS 7.0. This means you need the following hardware …
Apologies to those of you with older hardware. I have a drawer full of it! 😦
* older versions of iOS and my app will continue to work, you just won’t see further updates
I added 1Password support to Account Tracker a year or two ago, to let people use complex passwords to unlock my app.
With the introduction of TouchID, this has become less useful, however some people still use it. Unfortunately something broke in the implementation and it has taken a while to fix.
After a short but very useful debugging session last night with Rad from AgileBits (the company behind 1Password), we have now figured out what is wrong. Turns out it’s an Apple bug(!) and something I was doing prevented the 1Password code from working properly.
This is now fixed and it will be included in my next update (coming soon).
Minor fixes as a result of the iOS 9 update.
Upgraded to version 15 of the Database of British and Irish Hills (DoBIH).
When viewing all hills by date climbed, the app now shows all ascents, i.e. each hill is shown one or more times.
Note that you now require iOS 7.0 or above. Older versions (of iOS and my app) will continue to work, but you will no longer get updates. Full details are on my website.
In iOS 8 Apple introduced a way for developers to give beta releases of their apps to customers to test. I have not used this up until now, however iOS 9 introduced a nasty bug to do with the HUF currency and this was causing issues for a small number of users.
I have now built a beta release of Account Tracker (v4.6) and have managed to release it directly to these users. Testing is underway.
This is quite an exciting development, as releasing app updates is always very stressful. If I get something wrong (which I have been known to do!), 1000s of users would be impacted within hours, and it can take Apple a week or two to approve a fix!
Once I am happy that version 4.6 is working fine, especially since it has been updated to use Apple’s iOS 9 SDK (*), I will release it to everyone.
* no this doesn’t mean I now support Force Touch!
If anyone uses the hide decimals feature in Account Tracker, would you mind getting in touch. I would like to understand exactly what you use it for. Thanks!
After more than 2.5 years at the top of the personal finance section of the Windows Phone Marketplace, I have decided to remove my two (Windows Phone) apps from sale. This won’t affect existing users, and nothing in the existing apps will stop working as a result.
It was an interesting experiment, mainly paid for by others (thankfully). However the market just isn’t big enough to support any form of continuous app development or maintenance (IMHO).
When I removed them, Account Tracker was THE top paid personal finance app in the UK (as it has been for most of those 2.5 years), yet actual sales were less than 1 per day. Meter Readings was in the top 10-15, with sales of around 1-2 per month. Anyone considering Windows Phone as a platform should think very carefully about these figures.
Many thanks to everyone who bought these apps. If you ever want to move to iOS as a platform, you will find that my iPhone and iPad versions have more features than on Windows Phone, they are regularly updated and are far better supported.
Mainly bug fixes and workarounds for issues introduced by iOS 8. 😦
When moving the app from the background to the foreground, fixed the grey screen issue that a couple of users reported.
When exporting transactions from an individual account, fixed an issue where splits might have been reported in the wrong currency.
Fixed a rare timing issue that might have caused conflict copies of sync files on Dropbox.
Added a workaround for a similar issue in iOS 8 when syncing over iCloud.
Added a workaround for an issue that prevented notifications from working for some users running iOS 8.
Finally, did you know that reviews for earlier versions of an app don’t count towards its overall rating? If my app is showing v4.5.2 and it doesn’t appear to have a rating, please help me by updating your existing reviews to this latest version. Many thanks!
