Hill Lists 3.1 now available

Fixed a few minor bugs introduced by version 3.0.

By popular request, added two more lists: the Welsh 3000s and the County Tops.

In response to a request to copy complicated hill names to the clipboard(!), added an option to do this, but also to share your location by email and/or SMS (assuming you are at the top of the hill!).

Hill Lists 3.0 now available

Hill Lists has been out for well over 2 years now, so I thought it was time to give it a bit of a rewrite. Major changes include …

– cleaner user interface
– changed the way lists are managed. You now select those you want to track, rather than by region, and you can arrange them in any order you want
– added an “All Hills” list. It is impractical to view this on a map though, as there are 4565 hills!
– added support for setting your default location by searching for a place or postcode. Results are restricted to the UK and Ireland only
– your default location is always shown on the main screen, and you can switch between grid reference and latitude/longitude by tapping on the location itself
– as part of the Backups feature, added support for Dropbox. This makes it trivial to sync your data between your iPhone and iPad, in addition to protecting your data and settings

Account Tracker 3.1.2 now available

Bug fixes, including an intermittent crash on the iPad when waking from sleep or when shutting down, with a PIN enabled. In both of these cases recent changes would be lost. If you were hit by this issue, I apologise.

Improvements to the transaction screen to move the notes and reminder switch to the bottom, leaving the more common fields visible.

Layout improvements on the iPad.

A few other issues have also been fixed in passing.

Account Tracker 3.1.1 now available

A quick bug-fix release to solve two issues introduced by version 3.1, specifically a crash when importing CSV files, and an issue with the balance reports when viewing groups or all accounts. Also fixed a long standing crash when exporting large numbers of transactions (this should be a lot faster too!).

PLEASE NOTE – there are a couple of outstanding issues that were reported after I submitted this version. Please see my support page for up-to-date info and any workarounds. As soon as I have a fix, I will be submitting version 3.1.2.

Meter Readings 2.9.1 now available

I have listened to the feedback from my last update, and I do appreciate that people have different opinions about the colours used in the graphs. As a result I have added a few different colour themes in the settings, so that users can choose the colours they prefer. One such theme will display the bar graphs in both red and green, depending on how the values compare with the average line.

Bug fixes, including the iPad crash when adding your first reading. Apologies to those of you who hit this.

Updated my support site to try to explain how best to enter readings in different circumstances (e.g. historical vs current).

Account Tracker 3.1 now available

This is a fairly major update, where the user interface has been changed to use tab bars for all the main screens (accounts, budgets, reports, backups and settings). I believe it is far better than the previous version, however if you really don’t like change, please try out the free version or look at the screenshots here BEFORE updating!

Account groups – you can now add as many as you like from the settings screen. Also with this change, you can now hide individual accounts rather than just those in the last account group. Switching between showing and hiding accounts has been made easier too, by tapping on the total balance button.

Reports – added a new period option where you can enter your own custom dates. These can be fixed, or you can use Today as a floating date, making it easy to do reports like “Year to date”.

Improved the way you set up recurring transactions to make it more obvious that the app supports every 2 weeks (for the record, it has since version 1.0, you just had to select Weekly then set Every to 2).

Added support for using a folder within Dropbox for your backups. Basically if the app sees a folder called AccountTracker, it will use that in preference to the root folder.

Simplified the getting started tour.

Bug fixes.

Meter Readings 2.9 now available

Added Dropbox support to the backup and restore feature, to make it even easier to share your data between devices (e.g. your iPhone and iPad). Also moved the Backups functionality to the Settings screen.

By popular request, added a reminder feature in the settings, where you can set up a daily, weekly or monthly reminder to take your readings. This only works on devices running iOS 4.0 or above as it relies on Apple’s local notification service.

Added a quick 2-3 minute getting started tour for new users. I would recommend everyone going through this in case you aren’t aware of some of the features.

Big improvements to the graphs, not only to add a bit of colour, but also to let you find out the values at each of the points. All you need to do is touch and hold the graph, then drag left or right.

On non-iPad devices, you now need to double tap the graph to switch between usage and costs.

Moved the meter and rate settings to the Meters screen.

Added support for meters with up to 8 digits.

Account Tracker 3.0 now available

Added support for Dropbox, letting you use this popular cloud-based storage solution for managing your backups (free account required, see dropbox.com). Once enabled in the settings, backups made locally and automatically copied to Dropbox. Backups on Dropbox that aren’t on your device will be shown in grey, to let you select and download them. This makes it extremely easy to move your settings and data between devices.

Added support for landscape mode on the iPad. Also improved the layout of some screens to take advantage of the extra space.

Added buttons to the bottom of the four main screens (all accounts, individual accounts, budgets and reports) to make it more obvious that selecting this text actually does something. On the main accounts screen, it changes the view of your totals and balances, on the individual account screen it scrolls to today, and on the budget and report screens it lets you change the period you are viewing.

Changed the date entry screens to present a calendar view instead of the scroll wheels.

Changed the pie charts to show percentages of positive values only (previously any negative values would result in a grey pie chart).

Changed the auto-backups feature to be a popup reminder, rather than doing the actual backups for you. I have done this to allow backups to be copied to Dropbox, but also to make you aware that you still need to export backups files from your device.

Made the Quick Restart option in the security settings configurable, rather than it being fixed at 3 minutes. You can now set this to be from 1-15 minutes (or off).

More performance improvements.
